Yes, definitely.

I certainly agree that should be the default, but I suspect people would
find uses for optional mapping of those paths. I'd think the "global
namespace" people might like it, for example--if you're exporting a
uniform namespace across a bunch of heterogenous servers, it could be
convenient to have an exported namespace that's independent of the
namespace the server uses locally.
But it's not even something I'd necessary want to implement now, it's
more of a "it'd be nice if whatever design we chose made this easy to
add on later" kind of thing.
