NFS consistency problem?

I've tried to get closer to the nfs4 issue about inconsistent client behvior. 
With the tip by Gerhard, I've compiled a 2.6.21.1 kernel and I also 
disallowed "direct I/O on NFS files" in the kernel config because the 
description sounded somewhat related to my problem. I've checked the mount 
options to include "noac" and also "hard". Guess what, the problem remains. 
It is reproduceable to such a degree, it is really frightening. I've not had 
a single trial where I would end up with the expected sequence in the written 
file.

Touching the file before accessing it was also ineffective and I left the 
update times larger than two seconds.

Has anyone any idea I could try before switching back to nfs3?
