yes - i did the following on ibmcl1 and manchester

ibmcl1% git fetch origin   to make sure the origin/master is up to date
(there should be no change)
and then

ibmcl1% git log origin/master...my-master

had no output, indicating that the 'my-master' branch is in sync with the
origin/master.
