I agree about proprietary layout drivers and the requirement for public
spec but banning the blocks and objects LDs (which will a public RFC
in the IETF along with NFSv4.1) from mainline is likely to delay the
development of the server side reference implementation.
I understand that you want to create incentive for such implementations
but I'm not sure that this is the best way to do it.  As far as my plans
go, the OSD server reference implementation is on my road map, on top of
a simple Object-based file system.
